In May we met at Keyboard Concepts in Sherman Oaks. Our guest speaker was Ed Whitting from the Orange County Chapter. Ed spoke to us about what it means to be a concert tuner vs. a concert technician. The big difference is that concert technicians receive more respect as high level tuners/technicians and get those high profile and demanding service contracts. They also have to work hard at becoming more than proficient at not only their technical skills but also their problem solving skills and, perhaps even more significantly, their people skills. So much of what Ed shared with us also applies to all of us who just want to advance our skills and client base. Thank you, Ed, for a wonderful presentation.

Special thanks to Dennis Hagerty, owner of Keyboard Concepts, for providing space at his Sherman Oaks store and for the sandwiches and beverages. Thanks, too, to Michael Chan, store manager, for staying late and keeping the lights on.

In June we will be meeting at Pierre's Fine Pianos in West Los Angeles. Our guest speaker will be Don Mannino, RPT from the South Bay Chapter. Don is a Master Piano Artisan for Kawai America, and he will be introducing us to Kawai's new GX grand piano.
