LOS ANGELES CHAPTER
December Gathering: Holiday Get-Together
Date: Saturday, December 21, 2013
Time: 4:00 pm to 7:00 ish
Location: Precision Piano Services
10426 Magnolia Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601
Many attendees at our November meeting took the 10 question quiz about Richard Davenport's film, "American Grand". Nobody passed. In fact, it appears even I got one wrong. So, everyone got extra pizza and, thanks to Christine Kay of the South Bay Chapter, pie.
Our guest speaker was Isaac Sadigursky. He started off the evening with a short mini-technical on removing broken screws, agraffes, etc. Easy-Outs are usually the first resort but seldom the best answer. Many tips-n-tricks were presented.
Isaac then moved on to his main topic of Perfect Pitch. Tuning pianos in the field every day, our clients are fascinated and mesmerized by what we do and very often they ask if we have "perfect" or "absolute" pitch. Isaac demonstrated advantages and disadvantages of possessing this "god's gift", told a few stories and shared both historical and "hysterical" facts about famous composers and musicians. He also shared some tips on how to deal with some difficult customers who may think they have "perfect pitch".
Our thanks to Pierre Julia, of Pierre's Fine Pianos, for inviting us into his showroom for our meeting.
This month we will hold our annual holiday party get-together. Franco and Johanna Skilan have, once again, invited us into the Precision Piano Services shop for an afternoon of cocktails and potluck snacking. Everyone is invited to bring something tasty to share.
If you are new to PTG or have never attended a chapter meeting, the PTG chapter holiday parties are the best way to meet your fellow chapter members.
