SANTA BARBARA CHAPTER
June Meeting: (2nd Monday)
Date: Monday, June 9, 2014
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Piano Kitchen
430 Rose Ave., Santa Barbara
Five of us met at Gary Hammond's home on May 12, 2014, including our guest speaker, Isaac Sadigursky. We postponed our business meeting until June so we could spend more time on our program.
Isaac started with some tips on tools. He showed us some hollow drill bits that can be used to remove broken screws. He also recommended using a car jack to finish breaking apart a pedal lyre that needs to have broken glue joints repaired. He told us that the North Bennet Street School has a great selection of tools available for the students so that they can try out as many of them as possible and make an informed decision about what kind of tools to buy.
Isaac then discussed truths and myths about perfect pitch. Customers often assume that a tuner needs to have perfect pitch to tune a piano properly. He suggested ways we can dispel that notion. Having perfect pitch made it more difficult for him to learn to tune but helps him convince his customers that a tuner doesn't need it and can't use it to tune. Isaac suggested that playing something soft and slow after tuning helps the customer hear that the piano sounds much better.
At our June meeting Jim Connolly (our President) will present a mystery program. You will have to come and see what it is all about.
