Our May meeting was held at Shull Piano in Loma Linda and featured our very own Western Regional Vice President, Larry Messerly, RPT. Since I was not able to attend, Ron Kneale, RPT, was kind enough to offer the following summary: Larry's AcryliKey program was all hands on. Larry's hands, that is. Demonstrating his years of experience using the AcryliKey ivory repair system, he taught us how to repair not only chipped ivory keys, but plastic as well. (I personally didn't even know it could be used on plastic.) Larry gave us many great tips, but one that really stood out was how to best color match the repair to the original key color. Just mix the dry polymer with color additive in the mixing bowl, then pour a little of it onto the key to see if it matches - brilliant!

Our next meeting will be held on Monday, June 9 at Kim's Piano in City of Industry. Don Mannino will present a technical program that he has titled, "Taking the Pain Out of Regulating Upright Damper Spoons." In this class, Don will discuss the importance to the touch of the piano for the damper spoons to be set for the correct timing, as well as evenness. He will then demonstrate how to use a special transparent spacing block and fork-type spoon bending tool on an action model and on a Kawai piano. If you have ever struggled with finding and adjusting vertical damper spoons (where is that stupid spoon!) you will not want to miss this program. Once again, please note that our meeting will be at Kim's Piano in City of Industry.

The deadline for early registration for the 2014 PTG Annual Convention and Technical Institute, which will be held in Atlanta July 16-20, is fast approaching. For more information, please visit the official convention website: convention.ptg.org. We hope to see you there! (There will be no chapter meeting in July.)
