December Meeting: Holiday Potluck                                                                                                                                                                 No Board Meeting
Date: Monday, December 8, 2014
Time: 6:30 pm
Location: Shull Piano
                25041 Redlands Blvd
                Loma Linda, CA 92354

Our November meeting featured a two-part presentation by the ever popular Isaac Sadigursky. Isaac began his program with a mini-technical in which he demonstrated a variety of methods for removing broken screws. He then launched into a fascinating presentation in which he demystified so-called "perfect" pitch, explaining in clear terms what it is and what it isn't. We were fascinated to learn that there is nothing perfect about perfect pitch, which should instead be called pitch recognition. A person with pitch recognition will recognize and be able to name, without looking, any given note that is played, within certain pitch parameters. But they will not be able to pull an exact pitch out of thin air, for example 440.0 hz. An experiment was performed where three individuals with pitch recognition were asked to each tune a single string of note A4 to what they believed to be exactly 440 hz. They were all within a few hz of 440, but no one had "nailed" it. And no two were in agreement! Thank you, Isaac, for a fascinating and informative presentation.

Well, it's that time of year again, can you believe it? It's time once again for our annual Holiday Potluck Get-together! This year's event will be held on Monday evening, December 8, starting at 6:30 pm, at Shull Piano in Loma Linda. For those who were at the November meeting, please note the change of location. Since it is a potluck, we encourage you to bring your favorite holiday themed dish. We need lots of food: entrees, salads, vegetables, desserts, etc. So whatever you can bring will be welcomed! And please bring your family with you! Entertainment this year will be provided by pianist Julian Jenson, recent senior winner of the Riverside Steinway Society Competition and graduate of the Idyllwild Arts Academy. We hope to see you there!

We also want to remind you that registration is now open for WestPac V which will be held in our very own backyard - at the Doubletree by Hilton near the Ontario Airport. The dates are February 26 - March 1, 2015. Every year, the Western and Pacific Northwest Regions combine forces and put on a regional conference that that rivals the annual PTG Convention. Here's your chance to get in on this continuing education extravaganza without the added expense of airfare. Many of us are even close enough to not need a hotel room. For more information, or to register for this event, please visit www.westpac-ptg.org.
