May Meeting: (2nd Monday)
Date: Monday, May 11, 2015
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Piano Kitchen
430 Rose Ave.
Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Five members and one guest met at Dennis Ashly's shop on April 13, 2015 at 7:00 pm.

In our technical session, we discussed microtonal tuning, twelve-foot-tall upright pianos, a rocker arm grand action, and the sound of a piano compared to the sound of a synthesizer.

Dennis Ashly gave a program on recovering keytops. He demonstrated each step, emphasizing the importance of planing the keys down far enough so that the new, thicker keytops end up at the same overall height as the old, thinner key tops and that the rotary planer must be very sharp.

The meeting adjourned at 9:11 pm.

Let’s meet at the Piano Kitchen in May! Jim Connolly will do a program called, "Adventures in Test Driving." He will report on an experiment that he has been doing. Simply having customers play and listen to their pianos after being tuned has been leading to some interesting conversations. We will talk about the pros and cons of "the test drive."
