ORANGE COUNTY CHAPTER

June Meeting: (4th Monday)
Date: Monday, June 22, 2015
Time 7:00 pm
Location: Fields Piano
810 East Dyer Road, Santa Ana

Greetings to all Southern California piano technicians and readers of the PTG Southern California Newsletter.

The first big news is the official elections of chapter officers at the May meeting. Much to everyone's surprise, the existing office holders have somehow managed to hang on to their immense power by a close vote of acclamation. For the record, the current lineup is President, David Vanderlip, Vice President, David Stoneman, Secretary, yours truly Steve Blasyak, and last but certainly not least is the Treasurer, Diane Vehoski.

In May the OC Chapter met at Kim's Piano in Stanton. Kim's has a beautiful show room and a very large recital area. The meeting was held on Memorial Day, the last day of the holiday weekend. All things considered, we had a reasonable turnout. After the elections our chapter was privileged to have Don Mannino give us a presentation on his approach to concert prep work - more specifically both Kawai EX series, and the Shigeru Concert Grand prep. Don has a wealth of knowledge and experience. He shared many of his experiences as well as his approach to concert level work. Topics included tools to carry, string seating and stability techniques, and temperature and environment considerations, including placement of the piano. As always Don gave an excellent presentation. If you have never had the opportunity to attend one of his classes you missed a great chance.

Next month we are back at Fields Piano with our very own Randy Woltz doing a warm up for the National Convention. Randy has developed a class called "How to Hot Rod Your Piano." In short, he will share how to turn your typical living room piano into a performance piano with a faster and lighter touch.

In closing, on behalf of the OC chapter members I would like to thank Don Mannino for the excellent program, and of course Kim's piano for hosting and buying us some goodies for snacks. If you haven't been to Kim's store, stop by and give it a look.
