October Meeting: (2nd Monday) Board Meeting:
Date: Monday, October 12, 2015
Time: 7:30 pm 6:00 pm
Location: Shull Piano
25041 Redlands Blvd., Loma Linda, CA 92354

For our September meeting, Bill Shull gave us a riveting account of his recent trip to China which included a tour of the Hailun piano factory. Just as fascinating as his report on the factory and its history were his impressions of Chinese culture and some of the huge challenges they are facing as they are now making the transition from a mostly rural agrarian society to an urban industrial society. Thank you, Bill! Your presentation was a real eye-opener!

If you ever work on older pianos with parts that are obsolete - but really need to be replaced - then you really must attend this month's chapter meeting! Our featured presenter will be our very own Randy Morton of Pacific Piano Supply; and his topic will be, "What You Didn't Know Was Possible" - replacing action parts in older pianos with "obsolete" action parts. While his presentation will focus primarily on the "brass flange" type Chickering grands and the "double flange" type Steinway uprights, there will also be a discussion of how to choose and assemble "universal" wippens for other actions. As an added bonus, Randy will take us on a pictoral tour of the Tokiwa factory, showing how piano parts are produced.

Looking ahead to November, we have an extra special program in the works. The topic will be pinblock epoxy repair featuring a recent project that Bill Shull has undertaken. So watch for more information in next month's Newsletter!
