November Meeting: (2nd Monday) Board Meeting:
Date: Monday, November 9, 2015
Time: 7:30 pm 6:00 pm
Location: Shull Piano
25041 Redlands Blvd., Loma Linda, CA 92354

For our October meeting, one of our very own members, Randy Morton of Pacific Piano Supply, gave a very practical and informative presentation which he titled, "What You Didn't Know Was Possible" - replacing action parts in older pianos with "obsolete" action parts. While his focus was on replacement parts for "brass flange" type Chickering grands and "double flange" type Steinway uprights, he also discussed how to choose and assemble "universal" wippens for other pianos. As an added bonus, Randy took us on a pictorial tour of the Tokiwa factory and even introduced us to one of his Japanese surfing buddies!

Our November program will look at different approaches to epoxy pinblock consolidation. What situations call for its use? When is this approach helpful, when is it necessary, when is it better to replace the pinblock or leave well enough alone? What types of epoxies can be used and how do they compare? Are the exotic, expensive brands better than "fiberglass resin?" We'll look at penetration samples so you can judge and learn techniques to make the job more efficient. Of course we will have a horror story or two. And we'll have a newly treated antique Bosendorfer piano on hand.

Be sure to mark your calendar for this year's Holiday Potluck which will take place on Monday evening, December 14, in Loma Linda. Watch for more information in next month's Newsletter.
