Those who came to our March meeting expecting to see and hear a presentation by Don Mannino were surprised to find that a video would be shown instead. That was because Don was sick with the flu! As it turns out, the video, “Miracle in a Box,” was an excellent choice for just such an occasion. “Miracle in a Box” tells the story of the restoration of a Steinway grand that was then given to the winner of a student competition. Although it didn't go heavily into the technical details of the rebuild, the film held our attention as it told the combined stories of the piano, the artisans who worked on it, and the young man who ultimately took it home.

There was no meeting in April due to the WestPac Conference in Seattle. It was wonderful to see several of our members there. Say, is it just me, or is WestPac getting better with each year that passes?

For our May meeting, our very own Ron Kneale will present a "show and tell" program of his own modified DIY version of the infamous Edwards Grand Piano Action Caddy. Regulating a grand piano action in the piano can often be tedious and back-breaking. The use of a grand piano action caddy can save both time and physical pain. Though not a program on how to regulate a grand piano, Ron will discuss the benefits of using an action caddy, and provide plans for making your own regulation-specific modifications. This meeting will be held at Shull Piano, 610 Amigos Drive, Suite B2, in Redlands.

Looking ahead to our June meeting, Bill Shull will be sharing material from the first chapter of his much anticipated book on the history of Steinway.
