DECEMBER Christmas Party - 6:00 pm at Franco's shop. Please bring appetizers, desserts, and your significant other. We'll take care of the main dishes and drinks. See you there!

In November, we held our monthly meeting at the Steinway Piano Gallery in Pasadena. If you ever wondered what that huge piano company in China is up to, how many pianos they make, who they make pianos for, etc., etc., you would have had all your questions answered and the opportunity to ask more. Best of all, the answers would have come from John Patton, Vice President of Steinway & Sons and President of Boston and Essex Operations. John is a long-time veteran of the piano construction business; so we learned of his history and experience with such companies as Baldwin and Aeolian, to mention a few. The presentation was aimed at edification on the subject of Steinway's Boston and Essex pianos. Personally, whenever I have tuned any of those makes I found them to be very satisfactory pianos. The meeting was well attended and the snacks from Porto's were delicious. If your goal is to learn as much about pianos as you can, be sure to come to these meetings. There is not only priceless information during the feature presentation but there is much to be learned from talking to your colleagues or eavesdropping on someone's conversation. For example, I recently removed three broken agraffes from two Steinway pianos using tips gained from a previous meeting. We would like to thank Joy Chiou and Ben Salisbury at the Pasadena store for keeping the lights on for us.

Save these dates - January 25-28, 2018 - PTG at NAMM: A Special Display
In lieu of our multi-chapter meeting in January, we encourage all members to attend the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) 2018 Winter tradeshow at the Anaheim Convention Center.

In collaboration with PTG and the PTG Foundation, NAMM is offering a FREE PASS for all PTG members. The show will feature an exhibit titled, "The Unseen Artist - Sights and Insights from the Piano Technicians Guild." NAMM, PTG, and the PTG Foundation have collaborated on the selection of display materials.

You do not have to volunteer in the PTG booth, although you are welcomed to. The first day of the show is the best since most manufacturers traveling from all over the world are at their freshest. By Sunday, many will have started their journey home.

More information will follow next month or call Shawn Bruce at the PTG Home Office. Also, look in your e-mails for your November 2017 PTG Member E-News where you will find detailed information on how to register.
