SOUTH BAY CHAPTER

December Gathering: (2nd Tuesday)
Date: Tuesday, December 12, 2017
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Kawai America
2055 E. University, Dominguez Hills 90220

For our November meeting Steve Schell did an excellent job of explaining touch weight and counter weight adjustments utilizing theories of David Stanwood, as well as his own pragmatic approach. He was adamant about defrictionalization. Steve recommends McLube. The goal is to achieve an even balance weight across the compass. For most pianists, that's right around 37 to 38 grams. Topics also included proper installation of lead, shaving hammers to reduce weight, and the use of half moon balance rail punchings- to name a few. Thank you, Steve, for this truly excellent class!

In December we will be having our annual holiday gathering at Kawai America. We are honored to have concert pianist Wojciech Kocyan perform for us. Not only will our souls be filled with spirit, but our bellies will be as well. It will be pot luck; so please email Lisa Weller at pianocat88@aol.com with the dish you might like to bring to this time honored festive holiday event!

Polish pianist Wojciech Kocyan studied with two of the world’s most esteemed piano pedagogues: Andrez Jasinski in Poland, where he received his Masters Degree, and with John Perry at the University of Southern California, where he received a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree. He is a laureate of several international piano competitions and has performed throughout Europe, America, Australia and Japan. In addition, Mr. Kocyan has recorded for television, radio and film and has made several classical solo and chamber music recordings. He is active nationally and internationally as a lecturer and master class teacher. Currently, Mr. Kocyan serves as Clinical Professor and Artist in Residence at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Artistic Director of the Paderewski Music Society in Los Angeles and Artistic Director of the American International Paderewski Piano Competition in Los Angeles.

The South Bay Chapter is supremely honored and excited to present Wojciech Kocyan at this year’s special holiday event. See you there!
