SANTA BARBARA CHAPTER

March Meeting: (2nd Monday)
Date: Monday, March 12, 2018
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Jim Connolly’s Piano Kitchen
430 Rose Ave., Santa Barbara

At our February meeting we welcomed new member Mike Brown and engaged in discussion on topics such as the new voting rights extended to Associate PTG members, historical and future changes to the title of RPT, and the mission of the greater organization. We also discussed definitions for a pitch raise and when/how to determine when it is warranted.

For our program, Gary Hammond presented "Financial Strategies for Self-Employed Professionals." Some highlights include:

- Start saving for retirement as early as possible.

- It is somewhat reliable to invest in the stock market, as long as you have a long-term view. The best strategy is buy-and-hold, rather than trying to outguess the market. Also, don't pick your own stocks.

- In general, a tax break today is worth more than a potential tax break tomorrow.

One member also mentioned a handy Quickbooks app that will allow you to easily tag each leg of your daily travel as either business or personal, which makes tax-time mileage calculations very easy.

We will meet on Monday, March 12 at 7:00 pm at Jim Connolly's Piano Kitchen in Santa Barbara, where Jim will present "Things In The Journal That I Disagree With."
