The South Bay Chapter had an excellent chapter technical presentation from Cecil Snyder and Mark Hullibarger, "Essential Tools and Jigs That You Can't Buy," showing us the converging evolution of these two technicians’ tools and setups - many ways that Yankee ingenuity comes into play in our craft. They took us on an inclusive tour of many jigs that have helped them over the years to bring piano actions back to life. A fun element was seeing, side by side, two technicians’ ways of dealing with situations and the solutions they came up with. For example Cecil's handmade wooden heat box with adjustable sizes and fitted hole for the hot air, vs Mark's "4 dollar" version which was a newspaper pup tent and tarp cover with 50's style blow dryer humming away in there. Chemistry was discussed such as the use of good old naptha (now ronsonal ) and silicone, Verdrigris explained (and sometimes solved), and the use of glacial acetic acid (photography chemical ) and wallpaper remover. The evening was really superb, took us back to the old school, brought us closer to the spirit of Norman Neblett and that pantheon of technicians that funnels through to the work we do today. This was a truly awesome tour of these two technicians’ vast arsenal of spells. We thank you, fine sirs. A picture album to peruse and review the works is up at: Michael Cahn Photos
Thank you, Cecil and Mark. Bravo!

For March Sheila King will give us a presentation on finances. Couldn't we all use a little perspective on how to handle these boatloads of money that are to be made in this industry? Come to this class to find out the best practices on what to do with your hard earned shinola. We will meet at Kawai on March 13 at 7:30 -- see you there!
