LOS ANGELES CHAPTER

June Meeting: (3rd Monday)
Date: Monday, June 18, 2018
Time: 6:00 pm - Light dinner
7:00 pm - Meeting
Location: Keyboard Concepts
5539 Van Nuys Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA 91401

Surrounded by quality pianos at Keyboard Concepts, Pasadena, the LA chapter enjoyed an informative talk on how to be prepared for and handle the occasional dangers of the piano servicing trade. It was presented by Blaine Hebert, 3rd generation piano technician and holder of a Master's degree in science. Blaine made us aware of several things to watch out for that may not have been obvious at first. Something as simple as spreading a blanket under a grand piano before laying down on the carpet that the family pet uses for a rest room. Or, awareness of some of the chemicals that we work with and their effects. Blaine will be giving this presentation at the PTG National Convention in Lancaster in July.

We thank Dennis Hagerty for his continued support and Michael Chan, store manager, along with Dennis Samperi, Joseph Lee and the newest member of the sales staff, Bai Su, for hosting us with a lovely Panda Express dinner. It is worth mentioning that the Pasadena store of Keyboard Concepts caters to a large Chinese clientele, and they are ready to greet them in Mandarin Chinese as well as English.

We also confirmed our officers at this meeting:
Kayoko Forrest, President
Brooks Taylor, Vice President
Neema Pazargad, Treasurer
Mark Greisen, Secretary

A SPECIAL THANK YOU to Geoff Sykes for his many, many years as secretary!

This month, Ryan Ellison from Yamaha will present "Yamaha Hybrids: It's just routine!" Did you know that 20% of Yamaha acoustic piano sales are electronically-equipped?! In light of this statistic, we ask the question, "Why do acoustic piano technicians shy away from hybrid service?" In this class we demonstrate Yamaha's current products, discuss how hybrid service is profitable and easy, and give you the key to unlock your own hybrid business.
