No Meeting in July

No meeting in July due to the National Convention in Lancaster, PA. See you there.

Our June meeting was held at Fields Pianos, Home of Steinway, in Santa Ana. We greatly appreciate the sandwich dinner provided by our hosts.

The meeting presentation was given by Alan Eder, RPT, the full-time piano technician at the Herb Alpert School of Music at the California Institute of the Arts for the last 35 years. CalArts is a school that pushes the envelope in every course of study so . . . piano performance practice that uses the instrument in ways never conceived by the likes of Cristofori or Érard. Mr. Eder's presentation of a video, "Non-Traditional Piano Use," was developed as a means of educating colleagues on campus about how a piano might be used in ways out of the norm, but still with a regard to the fragile nature of these instruments which the campus acquires and maintains at considerable investment.

The conversation that followed, though of particular interest to institutional technicians, animated all present and could have continued late into the night. Thank you, Alan. Many of us look forward to the near future, when the video presentation will be available on DVD and/or streaming video.

See you at the convention!
