Surrounded by some of the most precise pianos in the world (as attested by Gene Korolev), the LA Chapter met in November at Keyboard Concepts in Santa Monica. Our gracious host Jeff Bauer gave us some up to date scoop on the top of the line Yamahas. But that was only a prelude to the technical talk given by Kevin Suzuki who recently arrived in the United States directly from Yamaha in Japan. Kevin had extensive training with Yamaha that any self-respecting technician would walk barefoot through a sea of Aeolian spinets just to get on the waiting list for. We learned how to tune a piano in such a way as to improve the projection of the sound. He also gave us tips on lining up hammers and the benefit of same. This was his debut appearance lecturing as a representative of Yamaha in the United States. We look forward to hearing from him again.
Our next meeting will be a holiday party at the shop of Franco and Joanna Skilan, Precision Piano in North Hollywood. Arrive at 6:00 and bring a side dish or dessert or drinks. Bring your instruments, too. There will be music and joyful camaraderie.
Several of our members were recently affected by the Woolsey Fire and many of us have had clients who were also affected. Fortunately, as far as we know, none of our members have lost their homes. To Isaac, Dan Amihud and Mark Stern who were evacuated in the middle of the night, we are so happy you are all right. If there are any others we have missed that were put out by this fire storm, please remind them that the PTG Foundation is there to help with emergency funds should they need them. Please invite them to the party.
