ORANGE COUNTY CHAPTER
No March Meeting Scheduled - Joint meeting with Pomona Valley Chapter
Greetings to all Southern California technicians and readers of the Southern California Newsletter.
The first meeting of 2019 for the Orange County Chapter was a great way to start out the New Year. Kathy Smith of the LA Chapter agreed to come in and do a program on aural tuning, focusing on tuning on the edges, called “Extreme Tuning.” A massive crowd from all over the southland showed up. Kathy has been a CTE for decades and is a concert technician with experience matched by very few. She is the perfect person to help us solve the puzzle of aural tuning. Although the focus was on tuning low bass and high treble, Kathy began with a short discussion of temperament tuning. Soon after she began demonstrating her thought process and checks while tuning at the same time, extending to the high and low ends of the keyboard. It was an amazing opportunity to watch and listen to her tuning while hearing an explanation of her thought process.
Another first for the chapter: our President, Melissa Weidner, was able to set up a Skype feed that two chapter members took advantage of. So beside a huge live crowd, we were live streaming the meeting. Sorta cool huh?
Melissa has been working tirelessly on revising the OC Chapter bylaws. The revised document was presented at the February meeting and voted on, passing unanimously. Copies were provided to members in attendance. Copies of the bylaws will be mailed to members not in attendance. A final vote will be at the April meeting, to be announced.
Thanks to Fields for hosting a wonderful meeting.
The March meeting will be a special event hosted be the Pomona Valley Chapter. See their section for details. ‘Hope to see you there.
