SANTA BARBARA CHAPTER
April Meeting: (2nd Monday)
Date: Monday, April 8, 2019
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Jim Connolly’s Shop
430 Rose Ave., Santa Barbara
The Santa Barbara Chapter met on March 11. Before we got to our program, we discussed at some length topics as diverse as
- Putting on a public educational forum for local piano teachers and students
to educate them about various aspects of piano functioning, maintenance, and
care
- Taking great care in online forums to be impeccable with our word and
to be clear to represent only ourselves as individuals, not speaking on behalf
of the chapter or the PTG
- Whether we wish to draft a Request For Action (as
the Boston chapter and others have done) to send to the PTG Board regarding
Steinway's trademark protection action.
Our technical session included discussion about various types of screws and adjustments in an action and keyframe, as well as the types and merits of bridle straps.
For the Good of the Order, Ben informed us that in order to save storage space, iPhones will "drop" data such as stored logins to apps when the phone is getting full, resulting in having to re-login to commonly used apps. The only solution in his case was to get a new phone with greater storage.
Our program was a mini-clinic on string splicing. Using a dummy jig, we explored two main ways to splice in a new segment of wire, with accompanying discussion on how to calculate wire sizes, where splices can and cannot be made, etc.
Our next meeting will be Monday, April 8, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Jim Connolly's shop in Santa Barbara where the program will be a mini-clinic on rebushing and repinning action centers.
