July Meeting: (2nd Monday)
Date: Monday, July 8, 2019
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Jim Connolly’s Shop

The Santa
Barbara Chapter met on June 10th at Jim Connolly's shop in Santa Barbara. We
administered the PTG's Steinway Decal Policy Poll, and the results were sent to
the home office.
As usual, our technical session was robust, and we covered such topics as
- checking the trapwork for pins that are working their way out, especially
on performance pianos,
- various products and techniques with which we've
been successful at relieving verdigris,
- application of Protek at various
locations to help older strings render over/under pressure points, and places
where springs rub,
- action geometry necessitates replacing wippens on a
Steinway action where the hammers, shanks, and flanges are being replaced,
-
techniques for removing and reinstalling backchecks,
- merits of the proposed
new Certified Aural Tuner designation to be discussed at the convention,
-
positioning an ETD to get better results,
- merits of various temperaments.
Our program was a mini-clinic on repinning flanges, beginning with WHY/WHEN repinning is indicated, techniques for doing the job, and ways to test that the work is satisfactory. We had tools and parts to practice and demonstrate on.
Our next meeting will be Monday, July 8. The program will be Benjamin Sanchez reporting on his experience at the Renner Academy.
