SOUTH BAY CHAPTER

No Meeting in July

June's meeting had a small but mighty crew because our Executive board missed the newsletter deadline and a few people made other plans instead.

Please welcome Jabril Graves and Thomas Rotelli, our new members! They will be taking advantage of the discounts for new members to attend the national convention in Tucson. Please make an effort to greet them while you're there.

The Home Office had sent a survey about the Steinway Decal issue. We took some time with it and Jabril recorded the answers to relay back to Home Office.

Our program was sharing home made tools. Of course, this opened the way for David Reed to show off many of the tools he has made and uses in his work. So impressive, clever, and useful. Each one is an art piece. He managed to not lose any while passing them around the group . . Kenny Walden presented a way to keep an upright hammer butt from sagging out of position while the glue for a new shank sets and also his clever key pounders. Lisa had knickknacks she'd made over the years as necessity created opportunity for innovation - a very roughly made nut driver out of a 5/8" dowel that actually fit the square rubber grommets on spinet stickers (yes, it worked). She also had many tools made by others who had shared with Lisa, like a voicing needle in a mechanical pencil, a sturdy tool for the capstan in grand trapwork, and a way to turn a regular clothespin into a parallel clamp.

The South Bay Chapter will not have a meeting this month. Please attend and enjoy the national convention in Tucson. August will most likely be a social event at a local park to hear music and eat potluck.
