Last month the San Diego County Chapter’s "Midweek Shop Talk" Zoom meeting focused on the business side of our work as piano technicians. We featured an informative session with CPA Doug Ashbrook about how "micro-businesses" can protect themselves through various business insurance and incorporation considerations. Many thanks to Doug for taking the time to help make these complex topics accessible to us with an open Q&A plain language discussion.
Our next online Zoom meeting will take place on July 22nd at 7:00 pm and will feature a discussion with piano service industry experts Kathy Smith and David Vanderlip. San Diego County Chapter president Brian Janey will moderate the session in a podcast-style interview format that will cover a wide range of topics including (but not limited to) the following:
- concert work highs and lows… greatest and scariest moments as a tech in the field
- what it's like to work as a couple in the business
- advice from Kathy to other women working in the field - highlighting unique
challenges and
experiences she has had to overcome throughout her career
- PTG exams, specifically the patterns they've seen regarding lack of preparation
- notable shop projects they are currently working on
The San Diego County Chapter is honored to have the Orange County and LA chapters join us for this upcoming meeting with Kathy and David. Thank you in advance to all who are assisting with hosting the event for those who will attend!
