SAN DIEGO COUNTY CHAPTER
March Meeting: (2nd Monday)
Date: Monday, March 8, 2021
Time: 6:30 pm
Location: Zoom
Last month the San Diego Chapter was delighted to have Jurgen Goering of Pianoforte Supply lead us in a discussion that covered his remarkable experience in the industry and an insightful demonstration of his creative methods for cutting large volumes of felt efficiently. He also highlighted various tools with admiration for the ingenuity of their design as well as illustrating details regarding their functional use. Many thanks again to Jurgen and to all who participated with their attendance and questions.
Our next meeting will be held on Monday, March 8 at 6:30 pm and will feature a discussion centered on matters of running a business by Ed Tomlinson, RPT. Ed has owned California Keyboards Music Center in the Central Valley of California for over 20 years. His business includes a music school, recital hall, and servicing of over 2000 band instruments a year at his shop.
Ed's work with pianos dates back to the early 80's and has included many noteworthy accomplishments. He apprenticed with celebrated Steinway technician Bill Garlick, is a graduate of the Little Red Schoolhouse, is a Disklavier and player piano technician, has participated in Yamaha's "Concert Level Training," Kawai's Shigeru Kawai training at the Colburn Conservatory, and attended classes on regulating, voicing, and concert prep by Steinway, Bosendorfer, Renner, and other major manufacturers. Ed personally pioneered the use of CA glues in pin blocks over three decades ago while restoring 52 pianos in Nambia and South Africa for missionaries who dedicate their lives to bringing joy to nationals there. The San Diego Chapter is very much looking forward to having such an accomplished technician share insights relating to the business side of working in the piano industry.
