Chapter
In May, as a staunch "aural tuning or die" tuner for many years, Ryan Sowers finally deviated from the world of beats to the world of cents and visual displays and took his tuning work to a whole new level. He explained how to harness the power of the ETD and use your ear to guide and refine the ideal tuning that exists in every piano. He demonstrated with TuneLab how his methods lead to an increase of speed and quality of work, allowing you to do more for the client during an appointment. Topics covered included strengths and weaknesses of electronic tuning devices, strengths and weaknesses of "aural only," how to efficiently use an ETD in "manual override," the ways an ETD can be used by an aural purist, optimizing stretch, and foolproof top octave.

This month, we meet Jude Reveley, RPT, in his shop, Absolute Restoration. Jude and his staff are dedicated to providing comprehensive restoration. It's always interesting to see how different shops are set up. There are so many aspects of rebuilding we can discuss - action design, soundboard design, regulation, refinishing, piano history. Hopefully, we'll have enough time for all your questions. Because of the time difference we will meet at 5:00 pm.

The following information was received from Donna and Eric Greisen:
With the passing of our husband and father, Mark Greisen, in January we wanted to provide to his many friends and family the treasures of his humor and creativity. Bringing people laughter and joy was of utmost importance to Mark. May you find that joy as you read his stories (see below) and view the music that he performed.
Regarding his videos, when we first started getting his videos together he had only about 8 published on YouTube. You will now find 86 videos. We did not edit videos we found in our computer. We feel this allows you to really see Mark's calm, casual communications as they appear throughout the videos before and after various performances.
This URL takes you directly to his YouTube channel. Without this URL you would have to search and search and still may be unable to find them all. Hit the URL. Then hit "Videos" at the top of the page and all 86 videos will appear.
