The Santa Barbara Chapter has started cautiously meeting in person, and our last meeting was held at Ashly Piano Crafts in Ojai. We welcomed visitor (and now new member) Luke Shanks.
After a technical discussion spanning such topics as humidity/dryness issues and effects, tracking down clicks, and properties of various glues, our program consisted of practicing a variety of methods of shaping hammers. Everyone got to try several methods and get a feel for the process and the desired product, as well as things to be careful of.
We will be doing a triage day on a collection of art pianos placed outdoors for several weeks each October in Santa Barbara. These always need a variety of mechanical repairs before they get placed so they can be used by the public and last the time they're out.
Our next meeting is Monday, October 11th at 7:00 pm. Location TBD.
