SAN DIEGO COUNTY CHAPTER

June Meeting: (4th Tuesday)
Date: Tuesday, June 28, 2022
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Your Device/Zoom

Last month the San Diego County Chapter had its annual business meeting as well as an in person technical meeting hosted by our Chapter President, Brian Janey. The technical session focused on the "humble console piano" with a wide range of inspection and service tasks. General business strategies and codes of conduct for providing excellent service were also covered. On behalf of those who attended, thank you to Brian for hosting an informative and enjoyable half day technical session event at your shop.

Some hot topics that came out of the in-person session were regarding the rates we charge for our services, whether we know our effective "hourly rate" with all aspects regarding time spent on our business factored in, and how that information along with our overall business goals should influence what we decide to charge for our services.

Given the sustained interest to dive deeper on these foundational business strategy topics, Brian has generously prepared a class for June focused on how to calculate your hourly rate. Included in the presentation will be insight regarding how that information can influence the rates to charge for your services with the aim to help you establish and maintain a successful business.

Attention: Everyone interested in participating in the class will need to email BrianJaney@gmail.com to receive a PDF to participate in the class.

From Brian Janey: The class, "Calculating Your Hourly Rate," will look at how to make sure your expenses and the amount of time that you spend when your posterior is on a piano bench line up to ensure that you are profitable. Together we fill out a simple form and do a tad of math. This exercise will ensure you're not giving away your services and that you know what your outgo and your intake are on a recurring basis.

You will need to bring the following to the class to participate:
- Your profit and loss statement for the last 12 months (or however you tally your expenses)
- The number of days in the last 12 months you have engaged in piano service
- The number of vacation days, sick days and holidays that you had off in the last 12 months
- The amount of time routinely per day (average) that you spend driving to your appointments
