SAN DIEGO COUNTY CHAPTER

October Meeting: (4th Saturday)
Date: Saturday, October 22, 2022
Time: 9:00 am
Location: Brian Janey’s Workshop
2495 Via Rancheros, Fallbrook CA 92028

Last month we had a well attended in-person class given by Ed Whitting, RPT on the topic of trapwork service. Thank you to Ed for delivering a wonderful presentation, to Greene Music for use of their excellent venue, to Brian Janey for organizing another great session, and to all who attended.

This month we will be back in Brian's shop in Fallbrook for an investigative session on dampers presented by our chapter president, Brian Janey! It's always interesting to try out ideas from technicians who have extraordinary knowledge regarding specific manufacturers’ pianos. For our upcoming session Brian has some damper timing ideas to explore on a Yamaha grand piano in his shop that he attributes to the Piano Service Lead Specialist at Yamaha, David Durben.

The topic will be “The Durben Experiment” - will raising the damper lever height create a more pleasant, less heavy touch on a Yamaha grand? This session will be in-person only; and lunch will be provided following the technical session.

To be clear, Mr. Durben is not attending and as of the time of this publication is not associated with this meeting. If we are fortunate enough to get insight on the topic directly from him at any point we'll include the information in an upcoming chapter newsletter.

While the session is open to all of our members, note that space is limited. All those interested in attending should contact Brian at BrianJaney@gmail.com to reserve a spot and so we can plan accordingly.

San Diego Chapter members can expect to receive our chapter newsletter with updated information, such as whether or not the meeting will be broadcast on Zoom. Anyone with questions about in person attendance, Zoom, or additional inquiries about this or other upcoming meetings should contact our chapter president, Brian Janey, at BrianJaney@gmail.com.
