South Bay Chapter
No Meeting in February
In the South Bay Chapter's January meeting, David Reed presented "Servicing Acoustic Actions in Digital Pianos," a technical lecture containing photo slides and service information about hybrid pianos.
But first . . . kicking-off last month's gathering, the 5-MINUTE TECH TIP came from Chapter VP Michael Cahn who produced two uncommon piano tools and asked group members to take turns guessing their function. The first was a sharp depth tool and the second was a hammer shank driller.
In PTG organization news, RVP Lisa Weller updated members about two recent proposed changes to the membership policy and procedures.
David Reed began his presentation noting changes in the industry toward the
greater amount of electronically equipped pianos over the past 20 years. He
asserts that in order to maintain and increase our service business, field
technicians need to learn to work on them.
David explained hybrid actions are
exactly the same as acoustic piano actions; especially that these actions need
periodic regulation. David first covered the disassembly procedure for getting
into the piano. Continuing further he explained the adjustment of the mute rail
distance to string, explained the sustain pedal actuator with potentiometer, and
the process for exchanging the key sensor. In a show of hands survey, 2 out of
10 attendees had experience in changing a circuit board.
Summarizing the
program, David said, "You already possess the skills far and above what is
needed to work on hybrid pianos!"
There will be no Chapter 905 South Bay meeting in February on account of Valentine's Day. Enjoy time with your loved ones!
