SANTA BARBARA CHAPTER
May Meeting: (2nd Monday)
Date: Monday, May 8, 2023
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: The Piano Kitchen
430 Rose Ave., Santa Barbara
The Santa Barbara Chapter met on April 10th, and we jumped right into a discussion about what we want to be as a chapter, and who we want to serve. This led to reinvigorating our commitment to planning programs for our meetings, and carrying them out with a bit more formality, as we have in the past, as well as recommitting to our internal communications. On the heels of that, we will be planning an informal get-together for late spring or early summer, with some dates proposed as soon as our May meeting.
Our technical segment covered such topics as
- being extra certain (get
more than one source) of information given at events/venues, as miscommunication
can be a stress disaster for everyone and the piano.
- who is typically the
point person when working with churches, and what their expectations tend to be
for the piano
- some cautions and best practices for installing Dampp-Chaser
systems
Our program was a wire splicing demonstration and practice. We focused on a
knot that is asymmetrical but can be made more easily in tight spaces because it
requires less wire to make.
Using a jig to mock up a stringing scenario, we
cut wire in various places and then practiced splicing it back together
The program at our May meeting will be “Diagnosing Action Problems.”
