In May new officers were elected. However, there is currently a proposed change in leadership, pending confirmation from the membership at the June meeting. Don Mannino has agreed to assume the role of President, allowing Michael Cahn, who served many years as a chapter officer, to finally take a well-deserved break once the change is confirmed. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Michael and Carl for their dedicated work as prior officers. The newly elected officers are Ryan Ellison as Vice President, Tim Michaels as Secretary, and Kenny Walden as Treasurer.
During the May meeting Lisa Weller provided valuable information regarding board activities and RFAs (Requests For Action). To stay updated, please ensure that you are subscribed to the Western Regional PTG emails. Additionally, the meeting featured a comprehensive discussion on pedals, buzzes, and other technical tips.
Ryan will be reaching out to the membership soon with a survey to gather feedback on future meeting topics and any other suggestions to enhance the chapter. Keep an eye out for his email!
Join us this month for Ed Whitting's presentation titled, “All I Can Tell You About Dampers in 40-60 Minutes.” This class will focus on addressing commonly found damper issues in pianos that do not require a complete damper job. Topics covered will include basic adjustments, replacing a single damper guide rail bushing, tightening a loose damper lever weight, replacing damper upstop rail felt without removing the dampers, troubleshooting a sustain pedal stop that doesn't allow a higher adjustment of the damper lift, and dealing with dampers that do not dampen properly. Ed will also discuss how very dry weather conditions can cause certain notes to continue sounding even after they have been released.
