The June meeting commenced with the election of Don Mannino as the chapter's President. A significant portion of the meeting, approximately 45 minutes, was dedicated to understanding and discussing the proposed Requests For Action (RFA) to PTG. Lisa Weller shared valuable insights into the reasoning and issues surrounding these proposed changes, which have been discussed and shared in the Western Region discussion group.
The technical segment of the program was led by Ed Whitting and focused on damper repair techniques. This included addressing concerns such as damper guide rail bushing repair, loose damper leads, damper tray friction, and rebushing the pedal. Attendees actively shared their expertise, with Ed emphasizing the importance of referring back to the 37 steps of regulation to resolve damper-related issues.
Several valuable tips were shared from the "Piano Jungle," including using disk brake high-temperature bearing grease on Steinway pedal bushings, replacing felt on the damper upstop rail without removing the dampers, bending damper wire to match neighboring wires, and utilizing Wenol, a non-abrasive chemical polish.
Looking ahead, the next meeting is scheduled for 7-11 and will feature a presentation by Don Mannino titled "The 7-Eleven Piano Technician." The focus of the presentation will be on enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and overall satisfaction of tuning services for customers.
