In our July meeting, several key issues were addressed that are crucial to both our chapter and the larger organization. First and foremost, the chapter membership dues for the next year have been increased from $66 to $86. This decision, marking the first dues hike in decades, aims to ensure financial stability and the continued smooth operation of our chapter. We also engaged in a meaningful discussion about leadership positions and proposals that were voted on at the national convention. The perspectives of South Bay members on these leadership and proposal topics closely aligned with the outcomes at the board meeting, a point which Lisa Weller shared in the Western Regional discussion group.
Don Mannino presented a thought-provoking discussion exploring the idea of applying concepts from convenience stores, specifically 7-Eleven, to the business of a piano technician. Notably, the meeting took place on the date 7-11, which coincidentally aligns with Don Mannino's past experience working at 7-Eleven while learning the craft of piano tuning. Those interested in numerology found these connections quite fascinating.
The conversation emphasized the importance of maintaining a professional image and appearance for one's business, and explored how flexibility and convenience could be integrated into our work. We also discussed the potential for selling a range of additional products, such as castor cups and bench covers, to enhance convenience for our customers while also increasing our income.
In terms of technological progress, we also looked into the possibility of implementing mobile apps and computer applications for the purpose of scheduling. The emphasis was on user-friendly platforms that could simplify and streamline the scheduling process, leading to greater efficiency. Additionally, the idea of introducing a customer reward system was discussed as a means to encourage repeat business.
Looking forward, we are excited to announce that our September technical meeting will feature a presentation by Blaine Hebert on the topic of Pest Control and Biohazards. Blaine comes with a wealth of experience, holding a master's degree in biology and boasting over 50 years of piano experience. He is an expert in dealing with pests that can infest pianos and will offer insights into identifying and treating such issues. He will also explore the health implications of biohazards like rat droppings.
In October, we'll be hosting a presentation by Brian Janey who will conduct an appraisal class, a valuable opportunity for members looking to deepen their expertise in this area.
We hope to see you at these upcoming events!
