We did not have a meeting in December because of the holidays but there were a number of year-end parties that other chapters put on.
In January we will meet at Faust Harrison in Irvine to hear Steven Norsworthy talk and demonstrate his newest invention. Mr. Norsworthy is a professional engineer and musician who spoke at the Riverside conference in November. His device is called PianoSens which bypasses the microphone in electronic tuning devices. You ask why would you need such a thing? The ETD mic picks up all kinds of noises, (people talking, TV in the next room, harmonic noises in the piano, etc). You notice that the display is sometimes bouncing around because of these noises, making it hard to tune in a less than ideal environment.Or the ETD keeps jumping to the next note when you don't want it to. Even if you are an ear tuner, it's hard to do a fine concert tuning when there is noise all around you. With PianoSens, it bypasses the ETD mic and only detects string vibration. We will have a chance to try out his invention on a grand in the store. Please come early for food and fellowship!
