In April, the South Bay Chapter enjoyed a screening of the Oscar-winning short documentary, "The Last Repair Shop." This heartwarming film touched many chapter members who have been involved in LAUSD piano maintenance over the years.
We also held an impromptu sharing of technical stories from the field:
-Don Mannino shared a story of a piano with buzzing and terrible sustain in the
treble which ended up being masking tape left by the factory on the capo bar ‘V’
with the strings installed.
- Cecil Snyder gave us a solution for expanding
key leads, and also alerted about to his 2022 PTG Journal article about Kranich
& Bach actions.
- And finally, Bruce Stevens shared recent photos of some
unusual piano repairs.
Upcoming in May, we will hold annual chapter officer nominations. We encourage all members to participate in the future of your PTG chapter!
For May's technical presentation, we continue our review of piano
technician's essential skills with "Hands-on hammer filing." This will be a
group technical hands-on session where we review factory methods of hammer
filing, led by South Bay members. Bring your hammer filing boards and your
solutions from the field.
Sample hammers and tools will be provided.
We will be joined by the Los Angeles Chapter which will provide pizza prior to the meeting; so come a little early. The program will be followed by our South Bay tradition of pie.
