We had a fantastic turnout from the Los Angeles Chapter this year at the national convention in Reno. By my quick count close to twenty chapter members made the trip north, driving alongside or flying over the Sierra for our annual migratory assembly. The convention is always energizing, and among the first-time attendees from our chapter you could see the excitement at being in a place with so many fellow piano obsessives. Home at last.
As chapter secretary attending the Council meeting for the first time as this year's delegate, it was inspiring to see how many people are working to make the Guild better, volunteering time and effort at improvements which benefit us all. As one example, the many piano service manuals which have now been uploaded to the website and are now available to PTG members. There are also new resources on the site to share with piano teachers- worth checking out, another way to help build business. So much goes on behind the scenes to support what we do.
Thank you to all of those who make the Guild run. And a special thank you to Kayoko for all of the help she put in once again at the registration desk at convention, helping to keep things running smoothly.
This month Los Angeles Chapter has been invited south to join the summer party hosted by Kathy Smith and David Vanderlip. Please join us at VanderSmith Gardens, enjoying David and Kathy's backyard on a summer afternoon, Sunday, August 25th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. There will be a taco cart from 6:00 to 7:30. Please bring drinks and desserts to contribute.
David and Kathy's address is 724 N. Citron St., Anaheim, CA 92805.
Finally, a special nod of recognition and appreciation for SoCal's Carl Lieberman, one of the godfathers of piano who we are fortunate enough to have living here in our midst. He comes away from Reno again having diligently participated at Council, in classes, and in getting freshly shorn once again for a good cause, supporting the PTG Foundation. This year Carl was also presented with a Hall of Fame award, for all of his many years of being a wonderful contributor to the work in which we are all engaged. Well-deserved, and long may he sail, scraggly or trimmed!
See you all on the 25th
