Los Angeles Chapter

April Meeting:

Date: Mon., 4/21/2025
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Kawai America
    2055 E. University Dr.
    Rancho Dominguez 90220

In March we had our second work day on the Steinway B rebuild project, led by Franco Skilan, RPT. We managed to cut out the pinblock, chisel clean the stretcher of any remaining wood, and create a pattern of the existing soundboard in preparation for removal. Thanks to all who came out to help. We will meet again soon, (date and time TBD) to install the new block. We will send out an email when our next work session is scheduled.

That same evening we had a great aural tuning class led by Ralph Miyashiro, RPT, of the San Diego Chapter. Thank you, Ralph, for your insights and advice and handouts; and thanks to all who helped create and evaluate our group temperament.

At our chapter meeting on Monday, April 21st, Bruce Stevens, RPT, will share his perspective on what is required to evaluate the condition of a grand action that is in need of improvement or will undergo a complete restoration. We will examine one or two grand actions and determine the possible reasons why they don't perform as well as they could, and what will be required to put them in top condition. Come learn how to create a "road map" for action improvement or full restoration so the end result will likely satisfy the most critical client.

We will meet at Kawai America, 2055 E. University Dr., Rancho Dominguez, CA 90220 in a combined meeting with the South Bay Chapter. We will supply a bite of food before the meeting, with South Bay offering a bite of pie afterwards, as ever. See you there!
