This month our program, “Action Regulation as Seen Through Letoff Timing and Aftertouch,” will be presented by RPT Dan Reed who worked full-time in the greater Dallas TX area for 45 years before semi-retiring in Temecula, CA.

Dan will address what he considers the most important factors in action regulation, then demonstrate and give members opportunity to work with 4-note action models built just for this program. Come and meet one of the stellar techs of our region, and learn a most important and valuable perspective in action regulation!

Last month our program was presented by Bill Shull. With a Powerpoint presentation and the piano at hand, we learned all about making modifications to an 1880 Steinway full-size vertical (57") with the separate sticker action. These transitional actions with rocker-style "capstans" were used on the tall uprights as late as 1941 at Hamburg, and past 1900 from NY. The early ones, like the 1880 instrument for this program, have touch weight problems, with 70-80g DW common. With some simple but significant modifications we were able to achieve DW in the low 50s and acceptable balance weight, while retaining a healthy upweight.
