#2:
DATE: Monday, April 20th, 2020
TIME: 7:00 pm
PLACE:
Seated at your computer, smartphone or tablet
Both of these meetings will be new adventures for our chapter, held online
using Zoom video conferencing software.
We hope you will find this format
enjoyable as we connect with our friends and colleagues and learn some piano
knowledge as well!
If you do not yet have the Zoom software, please look for the Zoom instructions Here.
For the first meeting on April 15th LA chapter will be hosting a test and troubleshooting session. For this session you must pre-register!
To register in advance for this meeting
please email
Kay Forrest.
You need to pre-register in advance of the meeting time!
(We are not posting the web link here on the open
internet because it will attract "Zoom Bombers")
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
For the second meeting on April 20 we will have a Shigeru Kawai voicing
presentation by Don Mannino, direct from his home in Cypress, California. This
will be a reprise presentation of his online session for the Chicago PTG last
month. It will be a sort of ‘hybrid’ online class, where he will first present
and talk through his slide show directly on Zoom. Then Don will be streaming a
portion of the video from Chicago, where he demonstrated some voicing techniques
on a 7-foot Shigeru Kawai piano.
To join the Zoom
meeting please send an email in advance to
Don Mannino requesting the invitation.
(We are not posting the web link here on the open internet
because it will attract "Zoom Bombers")
Don will be able to listen to us
with an earpiece, so we can individually ask questions of him throughout his
seminar - almost like being there in person!
Be brave, try setting up
your device and get started, because it is very likely this type of presentation
will be more common than in the past, even once this current Covid-19 emergency
settles down.
Instructions for getting started with Zoom Software
To attend the LA and South Bay meetings this month, you will need to install
and set up the Zoom meeting software. Here is the web site for getting the
software for PC or Mac: https://zoom.us/
For iPhone or Android, go to the app
store and search for “Zoom Cloud Meetings.” Download and install the free app.
Next, create a free account using your email address and a password of your
choosing. You can do this on the Zoom web site or in the app itself. Zoom will
verify the email address by sending you a confirmation email link to confirm it.
NOTE: If the confirmation message doesn’t arrive within a minute or two,
look for and click on “send confirmation email again” – Zoom has been extremely
busy lately, and they seem to get overloaded.
Once your account is up and running and you are logged in on the app, you will be ready to join the meeting! There are 2 ways do it: 1) Click on a link or 2) Type the meeting ID into the app
For each meeting you will have a link to click on (see chapter page). This is a fast and easy way to get to the meeting - the link will take you to your web browser, then the web browser will ask if it is OK to open your Zoom app. Select OK, and you are there! Some meetings require a password also - you will be prompted to enter it if required.
A few tips:
- You will need to verify that it’s OK to use your audio and
video in the meeting. Just click OK for these.
- Usually Zoom meetings are
set up to start with your microphone muted and your camera off.
